Senates Estimates time again
I am down in Canberra again this week for Senate Estimates – see this link for an idea of what Estimates are about. It is interesting to see how the Liberals are adapting to being on the questioning side and Labor Ministers being on the receiving end, after so many years of the reverse. It seems to me there is still some further adaptation required, in part due to many Liberals getting fully across details in specific areas from the perspective of Opposition. It is the final Estimates for me – not surprisingly, a lot of things I’m doing at the moment have that ‘last time’ feel – so I’m not examining as many areas as I other wise might, given I have limited capacity to follow them through into the future, at least from within the same role. Although the possibilities for areas to question are almost as limitless as your imagination (and the available time of course), Immigration and Indigenous issues will be the ones I expect to put the most time into.

Andrew, just as one Bartlett is leaving the Senate another has grabbed the top job in Tassie. That should be fun for search engines. Good luck for the future you have done a great job.

Senate Estimate stuff,is where a cat amongst the pigeons is the best laugh coming from that town.Senator Ray ALP,has made me laugh over the years with his dry wit and questions. And Faulkner Labor is an obvious star at it.No doubt the Democrats will be missed by a few there, because of the need to dig up stuff.Federal Police Commissioner Keelty knows he has been put through the ringer by Brandis..and the politeness and knowing laugh, are pretty disciplined knifes ready for the backs.Although Brandis isnt always about career destroying.I would like to cut the hairs out of a few pommy Police Officers noses, because I think they have created a monster that doesnt exist in the form they have created! Can you find a hair Senator!?
